Is it more beneficial for companies to use drones to deliver packages or humans?
Hypothesis
Off of what we know, our hypothesis is we think it is more beneficial for PEOPLE to deliver package than for DRONES to deliver packages. Summary of Research
The first thing our group did is learn as much as we could about drone privacy and drone package delivery. To summarize our research, we have learned many things about drone privacy and whether it is ethical. Did you know that Amazon’s drones are causing people to lose their jobs delivering packages? Amazon is trying to put charging stations on top of lamposts so that the the Amazon drones can charge when going from place to place. The drones will be able contact a lost drone and guide it to a charging station. Amazon micro airships can carry drones and packages. The big airships will carry Micro Airships, fuel, and people. Drones will get you your package faster but it isn't the most efficient. A drone is not the most efficient because a drone can be attacked by a bird or even legally shot down. People have the right to shoot it down if they are registered to use a gun if the drone is within 500 feet of their property. This has been a problem because people have been shooting down drones and taking the packages that the drone was holding. This mainly happens with autonomous drones. The drones with cameras can also take pictures of other people's business. Most people that we surveyed do not like this. Amazon also wants to scan your house when it drops off packages. This way they can see what your house needs and send you ads to try and sell you more stuff. Drones are very new, so I think we will here much more about drone laws and ethical responsibility of using them. |
Survey and Results
We decided to conduct a survey to see what people believed about the most beneficial way to deliver packages. One question we asked was If you were having a drone delivering a package, would you want the drone to be autonomous or driven by someone near by? This one was more 45-55 with more people not wanting a human driving nearby. Then we asked Would you rather have a drone deliver your package or a human? It was about 50-50 with drones being slightly higher. Finally we asked Would you be okay with a drone taking a picture of your face for automatic checkout at Amazon Stores? Again it was close to 50-50 but more people did not like this idea. Conclusion
Based upon the articles we read and the survey of people, we feel like people just aren’t sure about drones yet. Some are ok with it. Some are not. It sounds like a good idea until they hear someone might take a picture of something like their house or themselves. This makes people uncomfortable. We think that there is a future in some kind of automatic delivery, but we think it will not happen soon, yet, because people are not sure about it. |
