Thank you for a great first week! It was a pleasure to welcome hundreds of families to our Open House last Thursday. I loved walking through the hallways and seeing the excitement from students as they shared their new classrooms, teachers, and friends with their parents. If you were not able to join us for Open House, please be sure to contact your child's teacher to get the important handouts and information that you missed. All teachers and staff are available by email using the direct links under our classroom website tab.
Our next school event will be our Pizza with Pops kickoff for our Watch Dogs program, on Tuesday, September 8, at 6:00 pm. Watch D.O.G.S--dads of great students--are men volunteers (dads, uncles, grandfathers, and other important men in our students' lives) who give one day of volunteer time to our school. During their Watch Dog day, they assist in their student's classroom, patrol the hallways, play with the students at recess, and assist in other ways all around the school. Watch Dogs provide great role models, extra security, and classroom assistance in a fun rewarding way. Next Tuesday night, all of our students and their important men are invited to learn more about the program while enjoying a pizza dinner together. We hope you can come!
Next Wednesday is our first PTO meeting. We will be selecting our officers and organizing for the year. What a great way to be involved in our school and help us to provide family events! We will be meeting twice on Wednesday--2:30 and 6:00 pm--in order to accommodate everyone's schedule. Both meetings will be held in the school library. If you are interested in being an officer, be sure to come to the 2:30 meeting. We look forward to seeing you there.
Have a great week!

Welcome to the 2015-16 School Year! Our first day of school was yesterday and it was exciting for everyone--students and staff alike! During this first week it is important to set up regular routines so that all students get into the habit of coming to school on time, ready to learn. Please be sure your child comes onto the playground between 7:40 and 7:55 each morning. These playtime minutes are a great way to start the school day. In addition, as you say goodbye to your child in the morning, ensure that s/he knows the after school plan. If you pick up your child in the afternoon, it's important you are on the school playground by 2:11 to meet him or her. The gates will be opened around 2:00 each day, and they will be secured for the evening at 2:30. Although most students choose to bring their lunch from home for the first few days, please know that buying school lunch is a great option, and a bargain at $2 per day. We always recommend that students pay for lunch online at myschoolbucks.com. This keeps the line moving and ensures your child has plenty of time to eat a good lunch.
We hope to see you and your family at our Open House this Thursday, August 27, from 6:00 to 7:30. There will be three sessions, allowing families to visit up to three different classrooms. During this night, teachers formally present their classroom programs, giving you a great overview of the year ahead. You won't want to miss this important night.
Here's to a great year together!
