I'm happy to report that we had a smooth first week of SBAC testing with our third grade students! As you know, SBAC is an online exam that measures students' achievement in meeting their grade level standards in reading/language arts and math. Both subjects are tested for two days, so each student in grades three and four will participate in four days of testing. Our third grade students completed the reading/language arts portion last week and this week they are working through the math portion of their exams. Our fourth graders will be testing from May 12 through May 25. Our fifth grade students will be taking an additional test in science, so they will be testing for six days, May 3 to May 11. You can help your child to do their best on the exams by ensuring they get a good night sleep the night before their tests. Then, on testing days, be sure they eat a healthy breakfast and come to school on time with a positive attitude, Your help at home will be invaluable to all of our students!

I know there are lots of families in our Nate Mack Community who are looking for a special way to recognize a teacher or staff member who has made a positive difference this year. Here are some suggestions for ways students can say "thank you" during Staff Appreciation Week.
Monday, May 2 Send a Supply that’s Needed
Most teachers spend hundreds of their own dollars on classroom materials and supplies. Bring your teacher something that he or she can use in the classroom with you (a ream of paper or a book for the classroom is perfect!).
Tuesday, May 3 Get Creative for Someone Special
Use your artistic skills to create something special (a poem, a picture, or whatever you feel inspired to create) letting your teacher know how much you care!
Wednesday, May 4 Bring a Sweet Treat to a Specialist
Library, Art, PE, Music, Kinder Academy, Special Education Teachers, Our Office Staff, and Custodians all love goodies!
Thursday, May 5 Write a Note or Make a Card
Use your writing skills to create a note or letter for your favorite teacher or staff member!
Friday, May 6 Bring a Flower to your Teacher
It can be handmade, or real, whatever you’d like to give!
Thank you for taking the time to show your teachers and the other wonderful staff at Mack how much you care about them!
